I had a great experience with Power Gate System. I needed gate repair for my LiftMaster LA400 because the motor was not working properly. Tom arrived on time and repaired it quickly. He was friendly, professional, and very helpful throughout the visit. The service was fast, the price was fair, and I’m happy with the result. I would recommend Power Gate System to anyone looking for reliable gate repair.Posted on Google![]()

GATE AUTOMATION
A manual gate does its job, but only when someone is willing to stop, step out and push it open in the heat or the rain. Many property owners end up leaving the gate open all day because closing it is a hassle, which defeats the reason for having a gate at all. Adding an opener changes that. The gate opens as you pull up, closes behind you and stays shut without anyone having to remember.
Automating a gate is not just bolting a motor to a post. The operator has to be the right type for the gate, strong enough for its weight and length, mounted where it has the correct geometry and supplied with reliable power. The gate itself also has to move freely, because an opener cannot make up for a stiff hinge or a rough track. Our team checks all of this before recommending an operator, so the opener you get is one that fits the gate you have.
We also install replacement operators when an existing opener has reached the end of its useful life. In that case we look at whether the current mounting, wiring and accessories can be reused and what needs to change for the new unit to work correctly.
IS YOUR GATE READY?
An opener is only as good as the gate it moves. These are the points we evaluate before automation so the new operator is not fighting the gate every day.
A gate that swings or rolls easily by hand is ready for automation. If it binds, drags or needs a hard push, we address that first so the operator is not overloaded from day one.
Worn hinges, rusted pivots and flat or seized wheels add resistance and wear out an operator early. We note any hardware that should be replaced before the opener is mounted.
The operator attaches to the gate frame and pushes or pulls on it thousands of times a year. The frame needs to be solid enough to handle that force without flexing or cracking.
Swing operators mount to a post or column and slide operators mount on a pad beside the opening. Both need a stable base that will hold the operator in alignment.
Longer and heavier gates need operators rated for the load. Knowing the approximate weight and length helps us select an operator that will not be pushed past its limits.
Swing operators need room for their arms or actuators, and slide operators need space for the unit and the gate’s travel. We confirm there is enough clearance for safe movement.
MOUNTING STYLES
Swing gates can be automated with different styles of operator. The right choice depends on the gate, the posts and how much space is available behind the opening.
Articulated arm operators use a hinged arm that folds and extends as the gate moves, similar to an elbow. They work well on thick columns or posts where the hinge is set back from the face, and they can handle gates that need to open a wide angle. Proper arm length and bracket position are important so the gate reaches full open without straining the motor.
Linear operators use a straight arm that pushes and pulls the gate leaf. They have a slim profile that suits many residential driveways and pair well with dual gates that meet in the middle. Mounting geometry is especially important with this style, so we measure carefully before installation. If your gate needs repairs before it can be automated, our gate repair team can handle that first.
SWING OR SLIDE
Swing gate openers are installed on single and dual gates that pivot on hinges. For dual gates, we set up both operators so the leaves open and close in the right order and meet cleanly at the center, often with a short delay so one leaf overlaps the other. We adjust open and close limits on each side and confirm the gates stop gently instead of slamming into the stops or the latch.
Slide gate openers sit on a mounting pad beside the opening and drive the gate with a chain or a gear rack attached along its length. Installation includes setting the operator level and square to the gate, attaching and aligning the chain or rack, and adjusting tension so the gate starts and stops smoothly. We also confirm the gate rolls straight on its track so the drive does not wear unevenly.
INSTALLATION DAY
01
We check how the gate moves, measure it and look at the posts, hardware and power options at the entrance.
02
You get an operator recommendation based on gate type, weight, length and how often it will be used.
03
The operator is mounted with correct geometry, connected to power and linked to the control board and safety devices.
04
We set limits, force and timing, program your remotes or keypad and show you how to use the manual release.
BUILT-IN PROTECTION
An automatic gate moves with real force, so safety is part of every opener installation, not an optional extra. The right devices depend on the gate type and layout, and we discuss them with you as part of the plan. Our goal is a gate that stops or reverses when something is in its way and can still be operated by hand when needed.
Beams across the gate path that tell the operator to stop or reverse when a person, pet or vehicle is detected.
Force and resistance settings that help the operator react when the gate meets something unexpected while moving.
Pressure-sensitive strips that can be added to the gate’s leading edge to trigger a stop on contact.
A release that lets you disengage the operator and move the gate by hand during a power outage.
SIZING THE OPERATOR
An undersized operator is one of the most common reasons gate openers fail early. When a motor has to work near its limit on every cycle, parts wear faster and the gate may stall on windy days or when the hinges get stiff. We size the operator with a margin so it handles the gate comfortably, and we consider how many times a day the gate will open. A home driveway and a busy business entrance need very different duty ratings.
Once the operator is selected, we plan how people will open the gate. Remotes, keypads, intercoms and vehicle sensors can be added during installation through our gate access control service.
QUOTE FACTORS
The investment for adding an opener in Houston, TX depends on your gate and the features you want. These are the details that have the biggest influence on the quote:
Dual swing gates need two operators or a dual-leaf setup, which adds equipment and setup time.
Heavier gates and high-traffic entrances require operators with higher capacity and duty ratings.
The distance to an existing power source and the route for wiring affect the installation scope.
Remotes, keypads, sensors and backup power add capability and are reflected in the total.
An operator assessment shows you whether your gate is ready for automation, which type of opener fits it and what accessories make sense for your property. Request an operator assessment and we will help you plan a gate opener that works smoothly from the first day.

GATE OPENER INSTALLATION FAQS
Many manual gates can be automated, but the gate needs to move freely, have a strong enough frame and be mounted on stable posts. During the assessment we check these points and let you know if any repairs are needed before an opener is installed.
Operator size depends mainly on the gate’s weight, length and how often it will be used. We measure the gate, estimate its weight and consider daily traffic to recommend an operator with enough capacity for reliable operation.
A swing gate opener uses an arm or actuator to pivot the gate on its hinges. A slide gate opener sits beside the opening and drives the gate along a track with a chain or gear rack. The type of gate you have determines which operator is used.
Yes. We remove the old operator, check whether the mounting, wiring and accessories can be reused, and install a new unit matched to your gate. Replacement is a good time to add safety devices or access options the old system did not have.
Yes, automatic gate openers need a power source. We look at where power is available and what is needed to run it to the operator. Some setups can also include battery backup so the gate keeps working during short outages.
Every operator we install includes a manual release so the gate can be opened by hand. Battery backup options can also keep the gate running for a period during an outage, which we can discuss when planning the system.
Most operators support multiple remotes and can connect to keypads, intercoms and other access devices. We program everything during installation and can add more devices later as your needs change.
Yes. We install operators on commercial, HOA and multi-unit property gates. These entrances often need heavier-duty operators rated for frequent use, along with safety devices suited to higher traffic.
